Responding to Enthusiastic Public Demand, Kaohsiung Adds 1,300 Additional YouBike 2.0E E-Bikes
Since the introduction of YouBike 2.0E electric-assisted bicycles (e-bikes) in November 2022, Kaohsiung has seen over 2.5 million rides, with a turnover rate of 8.8 rides per day—twice that of the regular YouBike 2.0! With these e-bikes gaining immense popularity, and in response to high demand, the Kaohsiung City Transportation Bureau will deploy an additional 1,300 YouBike 2.0E e-bikes, with the first 730 e-bikes already in service as of October. The goal is to encourage more people to use public bicycles in conjunction with public transportation.
According to the Transportation Bureau, YouBike 2.0E e-bikes are equipped with electric assistance features, allowing riders to pedal with ease and making it very energy-efficient. Since its introduction nearly two years ago, 500 e-bikes have been made available to the public, with monthly ridership peaking at over 150,000 and a turnover rate reaching as high as 15.73 rides per day. These bikes have extended the range of connections and commutes, providing greater convenience for longer distances!
Statistics show that the top three YouBike 2.0E rental stations are Zuoying High-Speed Rail Station, MRT Xiaogang Station (Exit 3), and Fengshan Railway Station (Cao Gong Road). On average, each of these stations sees over 1,000 monthly rentals. Riders typically use these bikes to travel from Zuoying HSR Station to Bo’ai Fourth Road, from MRT Xiaogang Station to Xiaogang Hospital, and from Fengshan Railway Station to MRT Fengshan Station. This indicates that YouBike 2.0E has become an essential transportation tool for longer-distance commutes, school trips, and medical visits.
To expand public transportation transfer services, the Transportation Bureau announced that an additional 1,300 YouBike 2.0E units will be deployed, with the first batch of 730 bikes already available since October. These e-bikes are expected to make commuting easier and more energy-efficient for riders, providing a more comfortable cycling experience.
The Transportation Bureau noted that Kaohsiung's YouBike 2.0 integrates with various public transportation options and offers incentives such as TPASS monthly commuter tickets, transfer discounts, and student discounts. These initiatives promote eco-friendly, low-carbon travel, contributing to Kaohsiung’s vision of becoming a livable, shared, and smart city.
