GPS and mobile communication technologies enable emergency vehicles to receive a green light at intersections before arrival, ensuring safe and efficient passage. Additionally, incoming vehicles at intersections are detected in advance, allowing emergency responders to assess traffic conditions and issue early safety warnings to mitigate potential risks. To further enhance road safety, a Changeable Message Sign (CMS) system is deployed to alert road users of approaching emergency vehicles.
As part of the implementation plan, an experimental project was conducted with the Fengsiang Brigade of the Kaohsiung City Fire Department (KCFD), involving 12 emergency vehicles. The trial took place at two intersections in the Fengshan District: Fengding Road–Baosheng Road and Fengding Road–Guopi Road. Contracting was finalized in October 2020, followed by the installation of roadside equipment and in-vehicle emergency response units. Real-world vehicle testing was conducted between July and August 2021.
