In alignment with smart city development, a modern intelligent transportation system must go beyond traffic sign management and integrate seamlessly with the broader smart city infrastructure. The next-generation smart transportation system focuses on optimizing traffic control, leveraging big data analytics, and facilitating data exchange with various departments—such as public transportation, parking management, traffic safety, and meteorology—to enhance traffic management, improve safety, and advance smart mobility services.
To drive the development of an AIoT-based next-generation smart transportation system, the Kaohsiung City Government (KHCG) applied for a subsidy from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) in 2020 to support the planning and design of the initiative. The system planning was completed by the end of 2020, followed by the commencement of Phase I construction. The contracting process was finalized in March 2021, and the project is scheduled for completion in April 2022.
