Developing Intelligent Transportation Systems

- Centered on AIoT, the next-generation intelligent transportation system was deployed for monitoring at major events in the second half of 2025, including the Cijin Kite Festival, Kaohsiung Ocean Party, and Kaohsiung New Year’s Eve Party, as well as large-scale concerts and events featuring BLACKPINK and TWICE and the Asia Artist Awards (AAA). The system enabled rapid situational awareness of MRT and light rail services, shuttle bus operations, and on-site crowd ingress and egress, allowing phased traffic control measures to be activated or lifted at the appropriate times. This enhanced event transportation efficiency, enabled traffic conditions in surrounding areas to return to normal more quickly, and shortened overall dispersal time.
- The City has actively promoted smart transportation infrastructure and applied real-time big data processing technologies to provide road users with real-time traffic information through technology-enabled innovative systems, thereby creating smarter and more convenient urban mobility. Technologies such as traffic forecasting, coordinated traffic control software, digital twins, and roadway digitalization have been introduced. Based on big data analytics and integrated operational requirements, corresponding automated incident response mechanisms have been established to strengthen the City’s intelligent traffic control and management capabilities. Through collaboration with navigation service providers, value-added incident data generated by the City’s intelligent transportation systems, together with traffic management and diversion information that government agencies seek to disseminate to road users, are exchanged through the navigation providers’ platforms and displayed on motorists’ in-vehicle navigation interfaces, thereby enhancing the City’s capacity to implement traffic management strategies and communicate traffic information to the public.
- In the future, the City plans to integrate real-time hydrological information and real-time emergency vehicle data from the Fire Bureau and introduce disaster-response strategy modules to improve the efficiency of traffic response during disasters. To prepare for the AI era, the City’s Intelligent Transportation Center has begun introducing AI applications to support more accurate traffic forecasting and decision-making, more agile traffic operations and management, and a more user-friendly travel experience.
