Second Marked Roundabout Introduced at Ruifu Road and Gangshan South Street Intersection to Improve Traffic Safety
[Kaohsiung News] The intersection of Ruifu Road and Gangshan South Street in Cianjhen District, a critical passage for residents due to its proximity to markets, parks, and schools, has been prone to collisions due to its three-way diagonal layout. To enhance traffic safety, the Kaohsiung City Transportation Bureau, after multiple site inspections and receiving public support, completed the installation of a marked roundabout on November 1. This measure aims to redefine traffic flow, streamline vehicle pattern movements, and improve safety at the intersection.
The Transportation Bureau explained that roundabouts, commonly used in Europe for their safety and efficiency, can be designed as either physical islands or marked circles. Vehicles approaching the roundabout must slow down and yield to those already circulating within it, facilitating smooth entry and exit. Road users are urged to remain vigilant when passing through.
The Bureau further noted that a similar marked roundabout installed at Wenheng 3rd Road and Guangxi Road in February this year has significantly reduced traffic accidents after more than six months of observation. With strong local support, the newly completed Ruifu and Gangshan South Street roundabout marks the second such installation, aiming to provide a safer and more efficient traffic environment for pedestrians and drivers alike.
