[Kaohsiung Traffic Safety Month] Over 650 Traffic Safety Ambassadors Recognized, Secretary-General Kuo Tien-kuei Personally Attends Ceremony to Honor Traffic Heroes

[Kaohsiung News] Since the introduction of the “Traffic Safety Ambassador” program in 2022, Kaohsiung has successfully recruited over 650 ambassadors to date. To express gratitude for their tireless dedication to traffic safety, the Transportation Bureau of the Kaohsiung City Government hosted the "2024 Kaohsiung Pedestrian-Centric Traffic Safety Ambassador Certification Ceremony" on Sep 16th. Certificates were awarded to Kaohsiung City Traffic Safety Ambassadors, Junior Ambassadors, and Corporate Ambassadors. Secretary-General Kuo Tien-kuei encouraged all ambassadors to incorporate traffic safety advocacy into their daily lives, regardless of setting, time, or place.

Since 2020, the city government's traffic safety team has achieved remarkable progress in infrastructure, education, law enforcement, public engagement, and public transportation promotion. As of September 12 2024, the number of A1 traffic fatalities in Kaohsiung decreased by 13 compared to the same period last year.

In support of the National Traffic Safety Month in September, Kaohsiung City Government departments and agencies have collaboratively organized a series of events, including the “City Leadership Team Escort Volunteer Activity” and the production of a “Large Vehicle Safety Awareness Video” to remind road users of the visual blind spots caused by the inner wheel radius difference of large vehicles. Additionally, Deputy Mayor Charles Lin will chair a forum with high school principals to discuss traffic issues faced by students about to obtain their driving licenses, aiming to integrate traffic safety concepts into everyday life through the combined efforts of central and local governments.

In his address, Secretary-General Kuo emphasized the city government’s commitment to promoting a “Pedestrian-Centric Traffic and Yielding Culture” by continuously improving pedestrian-friendly infrastructure around major public transport hubs to ensure safe walking environments for all road users. He also expressed his appreciation to all ambassadors, organizations, schools, and community groups for their tireless efforts in disseminating traffic safety awareness, effectively reaching all ages and communities throughout the city.
The Transportation Bureau emphasized that although the Traffic Safety Month is coming to an end, the promotion of traffic safety awareness is an ongoing effort. Moving forward, the Bureau will continue to employ a multifaceted approach to education and advocacy across different demographics, taking concrete actions to improve traffic conditions. The goal is to work together with all citizens to realize Kaohsiung’s traffic safety vision of creating a safe and friendly environment for all road users.
