The City Government has proceeded with the widening of Cueihua Road and the associated amendment to the urban plan. The project was approved through a two-tier, two-stage review process by the Kaohsiung City Urban Planning Commission in August 2022 and by the Ministry of the Interior in January 2023. In 2023, the City Government allocated the required annual budget, which was subsequently reviewed and approved by the City Council, to carry out compensation operations for the demolition of above-ground structures.
The existing section of Cueihua Road in Zuoying District (from Zuoying Road to Mingtan Road) is currently a 30-meter-wide roadway with six lanes (three lanes per direction). The project involves widening the roadway by 10 meters on the western side, resulting in a planned configuration of eight lanes (four lanes per direction). Construction commenced in September 2023 under the supervision of the Public Works Bureau of the City Government. As of June 30, 2025, northbound and southbound traffic has been fully opened. The entire Cueihua Road corridor is scheduled for completion by the end of December 2025.
