In alignment with the Executive Yuan’s policy objective of achieving full electrification of buses by 2030, the City Government has proactively assisted bus operators in applying for electric bus purchase subsidies provided by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. As of the end of July 2025, a total of 305 electric buses are in operation in the city, with electric buses accounting for 36.5 percent of the overall bus fleet.
Kaohsiung is the only municipality nationwide to operate two different models of demonstration electric buses. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications has also identified the city as a benchmark for electric bus development. Going forward, the City Government will continue to support operators in securing subsidies for electric bus procurement, with the aim of achieving the goal of full bus fleet electrification.
