Reduce Carbon Emissions and Redeem Rewards!" Earn Carbon Reduction Credits by Taking Public Transportation and Redeem Them for Coffee, Monthly Pass Discounts, and More

【Kaohsiung News】

Taking public transportation can now earn you rewards for reducing carbon emissions! To encourage the public to participate in energy conservation and carbon reduction efforts, the Transportation Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government has launched the "Reduce Carbon Emissions and Redeem Rewards" campaign in conjunction with the introduction of the new "Carbon Reduction Rewards" feature on the MeNGo platform. From October 1 to December 31, passengers using MeNGo/TPASS monthly passes on eligible public transportation services can redeem their accumulated carbon emission reductions for a variety of rewards, including convenience store coffee vouchers, MeNGo monthly pass discount vouchers, and electronic gift vouchers. The campaign makes green transportation not only environmentally friendly but also more rewarding.

The Transportation Bureau stated that during the campaign period, the system will calculate each passenger's carbon emission reductions based on actual travel records when using MeNGo/TPASS monthly passes on eligible public transportation services. Passengers can view their carbon reduction achievements by accessing the "Carbon Reduction Rewards" section of the MeNGo app. Once they reach the designated carbon reduction thresholds, they can redeem their accumulated reductions for various rewards.

For example, passengers taking the Kaohsiung Metro from Yanchengpu Station to Kaisyuan Station 20 times per month can achieve approximately 10 kilograms of carbon emission reductions. The carbon reductions accumulated through daily commuting can now be converted into practical rewards, adding an extra incentive to environmentally friendly travel.

Acting Director-General Chang Shu-chuan of the Transportation Bureau stated that, as of the end of September, the number of monthly MeNGo pass users across Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung had exceeded 137,000, while the number of monthly pass users in Kaohsiung alone had surpassed 116,000. Both figures reached record highs, demonstrating that monthly passes have increasingly become an important option for daily commuters.

Rewards available through the carbon reduction redemption campaign include convenience store coffee vouchers, MeNGo monthly pass discount vouchers, and electronic gift vouchers. Additional rewards will also be introduced periodically throughout the campaign, giving users opportunities to discover new incentives for reducing carbon emissions whenever they open the MeNGo app.

To reward members who have consistently supported public transportation and encourage more residents to use public transit services, the Transportation Bureau will continue to introduce a variety of promotional campaigns. These initiatives aim to provide passengers with additional tangible benefits and incentives while allowing them to enjoy convenient public transportation services.
