[Kaohsiung News] The Kaohsiung Main Station South Underground Parking Lot will officially open on January 24 at 10:00 AM, offering a total of 669 car parking spaces and 253 motorcycle spaces. This facility aims to provide convenient parking for visitors heading to the newly constructed train station canopy or shopping in the surrounding commercial districts.
Kaohsiung Main Station’s underground smart parking facility is operated by a private company commissioned by Taiwan Railway Corporation, Ltd. To ensure smooth traffic flow around Kaohsiung Main Station, drivers are reminded to follow the designated entry and exit routes. Cars must enter via Jhansi Road and exit via Jhandong Road. For residents south of the train station, take Jhongjheng Road or Cisian Road, then proceed via Zihli Road and Tiedao Street to enter from Jhansi Road. For those traveling north from Fusing Road or Minzu Road, take Shihcyuan Road, turn onto Bo-Ai Road, and enter from Jhansi Road. Upon exiting, follow Jhandong Road, then take Tiedao Street to either Fusing Road or Minzu Road southbound. For residents north of the train station, vehicles should follow Bo-Ai Road, enter via Jhansi Road, and exit via Jhandong Road in a one-way direction. Motorcycles should enter from Jianguo 3rd Road and exit via Jhansi Road.
To ensure a smooth transition with the new parking facility, the Kaohsiung City Transportation Bureau has implemented comprehensive traffic measures to enhance the driving experience. Traffic signals at the parking lot entrances and exits have been adjusted, while multiple directional signs and six variable message signs have been installed to provide real-time navigation assistance, helping drivers familiarize themselves with the traffic flow.
During the initial phase, the Kaohsiung City Police Department will deploy officers at key intersections near the parking lot and the passenger drop-off area to manage traffic and ensure smooth operations. To further enhance traffic management, dedicated patrol units and rapid-response officers will be deployed to handle traffic violations and accidents in real time. Tow trucks will also be on standby for intermittent patrols to swiftly remove illegally parked vehicles and prevent congestion. During peak hours, 19 officers and auxiliary personnel will be stationed to manage traffic flow, with adjustments made as needed to ensure a smooth and efficient transportation environment for the public.
The new underground parking facility at Kaohsiung Main Station is expected to significantly alleviate parking demand in the surrounding areas, enhancing convenience for residents and visitors. According to Taiwan Railway Corporation, Ltd., a special promotional parking rate will be offered from January 24 to February 28, with hourly rates for cars set at NT$30 and a daily maximum of NT$150. Starting March 1, standard rates of NT$40 per hour with a daily cap of NT$200 will apply. Motorcycle parking will be NT$30 per entry starting January 24.Additional motorcycle parking areas on the east and west sides of the station are also in the pipeline, with completion expected in the second half of 2025 as part of the overall railway infrastructure development plan.
