Traffic Control to Be Implemented on Surrounding Roads of Shidai Boulevard for the “2026 Kaohsiung New Year’s Eve Party” Avoid Driving on New Year’s Eve—Taking the MRT Is the Best Choice

Kaohsiung News

The “2026 Kaohsiung New Year’s Eve Party” will be held on the evening of December 31 on Shidai Boulevard. The Kaohsiung City Government has planned a series of traffic control and transportation arrangements. Roads surrounding Dream Mall will be subject to three phases of traffic control. In addition, both the MRT and Light Rail Transit (LRT) systems will increase service frequency. Due to crowd control measures, LRT C4 Kaisyuan Jhonghua Station and C5 Dream Mall Station will suspend passenger boarding and alighting starting at 5:00 PM. To accommodate post-event dispersal, MRT and LRT operating hours will be extended, with the MRT operating until 2:00 AM and the LRT until 1:30 AM. Taiwan Railway Corporation (TRA) will also add extra train services for passenger dispersal. Members of the public are encouraged to make full use of public transportation.

The Transportation Bureau explained that, in coordination with the “2026 Kaohsiung New Year’s Eve Party” to be held in front of Dream Mall on Shidai Boulevard, and to facilitate stage construction, Shidai Boulevard will be subject to phased road closures and traffic control starting at 6:00 AM on December 21. On the day of the event (December 31), roads within the area bounded by Fusing 4th Road (inclusive) to the south, Old Kaisyuan 4th Road (inclusive) to the north, Jhongshan 3rd Road (exclusive) to the west, and Chenggong 2nd Road (inclusive) to the east will be subject to phased traffic control starting at 3:00 PM and continuing until 2:00 AM on New Year’s Day. To ensure public safety within the event venue, vehicles will be prohibited from entering and parking within the controlled area, and illegal parking on surrounding roads will be strictly enforced with towing operations.

In addition, no automobile parking spaces will be provided during the traffic control period. The Transportation Bureau reminds citizens planning to attend the event to make greater use of public transportation. Shidai Boulevard and surrounding roads will be designated as pedestrian zones. Attendees may take the MRT Red Line to R6 Kaisyuan Station and walk to the event venue. The MRT operator will increase service frequency to one train every 3 minutes on the Red Line and every 6 minutes on the Orange Line (with additional empty trains dispatched as needed), and extend operations with the last trains departing at 2:00 AM on New Year’s Day.

Given the anticipated large crowds on New Year’s Eve, and to ensure safety in high-density areas, LRT C4 Kaisyuan Jhonghua Station and C5 Dream Mall Station will implement crowd control measures and suspend passenger boarding and alighting starting at 5:00 PM. Passengers using the LRT to access the event venue are advised to board or alight at C3 Cianjhen Star Station or C6 Economic and Trade Park Station. The LRT operator will also increase service frequency to one train every 6 to 8 minutes and extend operations with the last train departing at 1:30 AM on New Year’s Day.

For further information on New Year’s Eve traffic arrangements, please visit the Kaohsiung City Government Transportation Bureau website – New Year’s Eve Special Section (https://www.tbkc.gov.tw/NewYear). Detailed information on additional TRA train services is available on the Taiwan Railway Corporation website (https://www.railway.gov.tw/

). All traffic control and transportation measures will be flexibly adjusted on the day of the event in response to crowd conditions, and on-site implementation shall prevail.
