Lunar New Year shopping starts with taking the bus! Celebrating the Year of the Horse with continuous good fortune, Kaohsiung City Government Transportation Bureau is encouraging citizens to use TPASS to take public buses to Sanfong Jhong Street for New Year shopping by launching the “Hop on the Bus for Instant Good Fortune” – 2026 New Year Shopping Bus Giveaway Campaign. From February 1 to February 22, participants who complete the quiz tasks under the event post on the official Kaohsiung City Government Transportation Bureau Facebook page will have a chance to win extraordinary prizes, including premium heated food warming plates valued at over NT$3,000.
Director Chang Shu-chuan of the Transportation Bureau stated that Sanfong Jhong Street is Kaohsiung’s most iconic New Year shopping district, which attracts heavy crowds and a lively atmosphere every year ahead of the Lunar New Year, and TPASS monthly passes are economical and affordable. As of December 2025, cumulative sales had exceeded 2.42 million passes, with total usage surpassing 116 million. TPASS has already become an essential travel companion for daily commuting and leisure trips alike.
In order to further encourage the public to use TPASS and public transportation for New Year shopping, the Transportation Bureau is launching the “Year of the Horse, Set Off for Good Fortune” online giveaway campaign this year. Citizens are invited to take the bus to celebrate the New Year and take a chance. Simply press the bottom of like and follow the Kaohsiung City Government Transportation Bureau Facebook fan page, then access the event link (https://forms.gle/RRfBGCbCSPDfUNkW7) and correctly answer questions related to TPASS and Sanfong Jhong Street to receive one entry into the prize draw. Additionally, participants who upload a photo of their shopping trip at Sanfong Jhong Street can earn another chance, doubling their chances of winning and taking home great prizes.
The Transportation Bureau also kindly reminds the public that when traveling to Sanfong Jhong Street for New Year shopping, they may take bus routes including Route 60 Jyuemin Main Line, Route 88 Jianguo Main Line, Route 205 Jhinghua Main Line, and Route 218 Neiwei Main Line. Passengers may alight at stops such as Sanfong Jhong Street, Kaohsiung Senior High School, Sanmin Market, or the Zihli–Hebei Road Intersection to reach the destination. During the campaign period, buses operating along nearby routes will display the message “Take the Bus in the Year of the Horse, Shop for New Year Goods” on their LED destination signs, welcoming citizens to use public transportation and joyfully celebrate the Chinese New Year together.
