Over 1,000 Bus Shelters Now Installed, Further Enhancing Public Transportation Service Quality

[Kaohsiung News]

To strengthen the quality of public transportation services, the Transportation Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government secured a total of NT$30 million in subsidies from the central government in 2024, completing the construction and replacement of 75 bus shelters. As a result, the total number of bus shelters citywide has now reached 1,050. The city government will continue to apply for central government funding, with plans to complete the installation of an additional 45 bus shelters by the end of this year. These efforts aim to provide citizens with a more comfortable and safer waiting environment, while also installing dynamic LED displays to enhance access to real-time bus information.

The Transportation Bureau stated that in order to further improve the convenience of intermodal transfers, new or expanded bus shelters have been established at key transfer nodes along the Light Rail and Taiwan Railway lines as of early 2025. These include "TRA Xin Zuoying Station," "TRA Science and Technology Museum Station," "MRT Kaisyuan Station (Jhongshan 3rd Rd.)(LRT Cianjhen Star Station)," "MRT Sanduo Shopping District Station (Jhongshan 2nd Rd.) ," and "MRT Aozihdi Station (LRT Heart of Love River Station) ." These upgrades are designed to provide a more convenient and seamless public transportation network for passengers making transfers.

In response to the recent surge in tourism due to various large-scale events held by the city government in the Cijin area, the Transportation Bureau has also reviewed bus stops along Cijin 2nd Road and Cijin 3rd Road. In 2025, eight outdated bus shelters near stops such as "Cijin Junior High School (Cijin 2nd Rd) ," "Coast Park," and "Fongtian Temple" will be newly built or replaced. These improvements will not only make it more convenient for visitors to access Cijin via bus, but also enhance daily commuting comfort and accessibility for local residents.

To improve the quality of waiting environments in suburban areas, the Transportation Bureau has also reviewed bus stops located in the former Kaohsiung County regions. Of the 75 shelters completed, 38 are located in these areas, including stops along Provincial Highway 22 in Yanchao District, Chung-Cheng Road in Renwu District, and Fonglin 2nd and 3rd Roads in Daliao District. These sites are equipped with compact cantilever-type shelters using lightweight steel structures, effectively utilizing roadside space and overcoming the lack of sidewalks along provincial roads. This enhances both safety and comfort for passengers and helps narrow the gap in public transport infrastructure between urban and outlying areas.
