【Kaohsiung News】With 1,436 stations established citywide and over 66 million cumulative rides, the Kaohsiung YouBike 2.0 system has become deeply integrated into the daily lives of residents. The electrically assisted YouBike 2.0E, known for its convenience and ease of use, is especially favored by commuters and students, with a peak daily turnover rate of up to nine times. To safeguard the safety of riders, the Transportation Bureau urges users to log in via the YouBike app or official website to opt in for the free Public Bicycle Injury Insurance. Starting this July, users who have not completed this process will be unable to rent YouBike 2.0E, which may impact their riding privileges.
According to the Transportation Bureau, due to the Executive Yuan’s TPASS Monthly Pass policy implemented in April 2023, YouBike annual ridership in Kaohsiung increased by 10% in 2024. Among users, 57% benefited from TPASS monthly pass, transfer discounts, and student fare reductions—demonstrating that an increasing number of citizens are using TPASS to connect YouBike with various public transport systems.
The Transportation Bureau noted that Kaohsiung currently has 1,436 YouBike stations in operation, with more than 66 million total rides. Monthly usage has surpassed 1.8 million trips, reflecting the growing reliance on YouBike for commuting, school travel, and tourism. The Bureau will continue expanding the system, aiming to reach 1,500 stations citywide by the end of 2026.
To enhance rider safety, the Transportation Bureau offers free injury insurance coverage for YouBike users. Riders only need to log in via the app or the official YouBike website and agree to join the Public Bicycle Injury Insurance program to be covered. As of now, the opt-in rate in Kaohsiung has exceeded 90%. The Bureau urges users who have not yet enrolled to do so as soon as possible, as failure to opt in will prevent them from renting YouBike 2.0E starting in July.
