To implement human-oriented transportation and solve pedestrian-vehicle conflict, the Bureau set up “traffic calming zones” in areas with more pedestrians and students, including junior high schools and elementary schools in the city, connecting existing sidewalk network and reducing driving speed.
In 2017, the Bureau invited the Education Bureau, the Civil Affairs Bureau, the Public Works Bureau, and other units to deliberate on matters concerning the setting up, and asked the Education Bureau and the Civil Affairs Bureau to assist with the survey of the willingness of their subordinate junior high schools, elementary schools, and each village offices. The Bureau subsequently assessed the feasibility and carried out inspection and coordination. Measures have been taken to improve 88 schools and 6 villages, and will continue to be implemented in 2019 to create pedestrian-friendly environments and enhance road safety.
