On May 18, 2017, the Transportation Bureau invited 15 experts and scholars to administer the annual examination of the Kaohsiung MRT and Light Rail systems, to ensure the safety and smooth operation of the systems. The examination results showed the systems to be in excellent condition. The passenger volume and operating surplus this year also exceeded past records.
