According to the Kaohsiung Underground Railway Project, the railway starts from TRA New Zuoying Station and goes south via Baojhen Road to Fongshan, with a length of 18.16 kilometers. In addition to the existing Zuoying Station, Kaohsiung Train Station, and Fongshan Train Station, seven more commuter train stations, including Neiwei, Museum of Fine Arts, Gushan, Sankuaicuo, Minzu, National Science and Technology Museum, and Jhengyi/Chengcing, will be constructed. The total budget is approximately $95.3 billion, to which the City Government and the Central Government contributed $29.6 billion and $65.7 billion, respectively. The entire railway is expected to be finished by the end of 2017 for official operation.
As to the way to cross between Jhongshan Road in the south and Boai Road in the north within a specific area of Kaohsiung Train Station when the railway goes underground, a ground level plan will be drawn up. The station area transportation optimization proposal has been confirmed and adopted by the Urban Development Task Force for the Underground Railway Project of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications during the seventh committee meeting.
The freeway bus transit station of Kaohsiung Train Station, expected to feature 20 platforms, will serve as the main transit center for long-distance transport in this city. An agreement was reached at the second work group meeting of the eighth conference of the Urban Development Task Force for the Underground Railway Project of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications on March 17, 2014. A conclusion will be reached after the confirmation by the eighth committee of the task force.
