30-minute Living Circle: Six Major Transit Centers

Update Date:106-07-29

The Greater Kaohsiung area includes a vast hinterland with a northeast-southwest trend. With the aim of building a 30-minute living circle, the Transportation Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government is planning to connect public transportation systems with transit centers in consideration of the commuting needs of both city center and remote areas and the balance of regional development. If Kaohsiung Train Station and the HSR Zuoying Station are used as the two major transit hubs and Fongshan, Gangshan, Siaogang and Cishan as four secondary transit centers, all transit centers can be effectively connected by moving highway bus lines and adjusting city bus lines to provide all levels of transfer services involving freeway buses, highway buses and city buses and build a comprehensive public transport network.

  1. Kaohsiung Train Station Transit Center:
The freeway bus transit area will be located at the designated station area #2 to the east of Kaohsiung Train Station, while the city bus transit station will be set up in the designated station area to the north of the train station, with the aim of offering multiple transit services involving freeway buses, highway buses, railways, Mass Rapid Transit and city buses for the Kaohsiung metropolitan area. This transit center has been included in the “Kaohsiung Train Station sub-project as part of the Kaohsiung Railway Underground Project” by the Railway Reconstruction Bureau of the Ministry Of Transportation and Communications.
  2. HSR Zuoying Station Transit Center:
The transit station will be in the designated transit area to the west of HSR Zuoying Station, with the aim of providing all-round transit services involving High Speed Rail, railways, MRT, highway buses and city buses in the metropolitan area of Northern Kaohsiung. National Freeway No. 10 will also be part of the project with the launch of freeway express buses offering rapid public transport services between mountain areas such as Cishan and Meinong and the metropolitan area. The High Speed Rail Bureau of the Ministry Of Transportation and Communications will encourage private participation (BOT) in the future development of the transit station.
  3. Cishan Transit Center:
The transit center will be located in Cishan South Stop and made by 7 platforms. The Transportation Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government applied for a subsidy in 2011 for the “Cishan-Meinong Area Public Transportation Development Project” in accordance with the “Regulation of Encouraging Public Transportation Development” and the “Regulations for Subsidizing Public Transportation Businesses” to provide Kaohsiung Transportation Co., Ltd. with the necessary funds for the construction and renovation plans of Cishan Transit Center. The reconstruction is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.
  4. Gangshan Transit Center:
Gangshan Transit Center will be made up by two transit stations. One station will be located in the square in front of Gangshan Train Station and the other one in the commercial service area in front of MRT Gangshan South Station. Both stations will be provided with 3 bus stop stalls and offer transit services involving Taiwan Railways and MRT Red Line to and from the metropolitan area and the Districts of Jiading, Hunei, Lujhu, Alian, Yong-an, Mituo, Tianliao and Gangshan. The construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.
  5. Fongshan Transit Center:
The transit center will be located in the squares and parking areas next to MRT Dadong Station and provided with 2 bus stop stalls and offer transit services involving the MRT system to and from the metropolitan area and Dashu, Niosong, Linyuan and Pingtung Districts. The construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2013.
  6. Siaogang Transit Center:
The transit center will be located on the sidewalks next to MRT Siaogang Station and provided with 3 bus stop stalls together with a dynamic bus information system, solar photovoltaic facilities and a fog cooling system. The construction is expected to be completed before March 2013.
